City must fight till the end…and win

With Manchester City seemingly under investigation by everybody apart from fictional sleuths Inspector Clouseau, Poirot and Sherlock Holmes, there’s never been a more apt moment for the Sky Blues to apply their modern day mantra of ‘Fight Till The End’.

Upward trajectory – Pep is aiming for truly dizzy heights with City, but it seems like everybody is out to destabilise his team.

For the conspiracy theorists who believe everybody is ‘out to get City’, it won’t come as any great surprise that the world and his wife have suddenly emerged from the shadows to chuck everything, bar the kitchen sink, towards the Etihad.

Is it pure coincidence that UEFA, FIFA, the FA and the Premier League have all trumpeted the fact – with great gusto – they are scrutinizing the off field affairs of City, implying guilt with every announcement and update?

Is it by sheer chance that it’s all happening  precisely as Pep Guardiola’s team threatens to be the greatest in the history of English football?

We’ll steer clear of fanciful talk about any quadruple of trophies for City at this stage, but there’s no doubting the quadruple challenge seeking to undermine, even halt, the upward trajectory of Sheikh Mansour’s Manchester City FC.

Are Sheikh Mansour and Manchester City ready to fight allegations, accusations and insinuations aplenty from football’s governing bodies both at home and abroad?

To have UEFA and FIFA – two of the most corrupt and rotten to the core organizations on the planet – wage war on City and its Abu Dhabi ownership, is tantamount in itself to a validation of City’s innocence.

Add to the farce, a petition from at least a dozen of City Premier League rivals, prompting another investigation into the Champions of England, and you have all the makings of a synchronized and cynically choreographed attack.

Did I mention a ‘petition’? Needless to say, the US owners of the scouse scoundrels at Anfield who, having blown a seven point lead at the top of the table, were first in line, egging on the Premier League to take sanctions against their title rivals.

Richard Scudamore, who recently departed his post as CEO of the Premier League, was quoted as saying he ‘…didn’t want to see City running away with another Premier League title’ having previously stated, ‘…a successful Liverpool and Manchester United, was good for the Premier League.’

Scudamore professes to support Bristol City, but isn’t it strange that we never heard such negative utterances about United running away with title after title, when they were dominating the Premier League under Sir Alex Ferguson?

Pep’s first Premier League trophy. It appears the Premier League aren’t keen on Guardiola adding a second consecutive title in 2019.

It appears that it just won’t do to have City as the dominant force in English football.

The wave of allegations emanate from a bunch of very sauerkrauts at Der Spiegel in Deutschland, fuelled by the Football Leaks website. That will be the same Der Speigel which was ignorant to the fact that one of its award-winning journalists, was effectively making stories up in this worrying era of fake news.

That will be the same Football Leaks which has just seen one of its primary contributors – a Portuguese computer hacker – arrested for allegedly doing just that, stealing data.

City have denied any financial irregularities in respect of all the allegations relating to falsifying sponsorship deals, deliberately misleading UEFA on Financial Fair Play compliance and also making illegal payments to Jadon Sancho’s agent and family, when signing him as a 14-year old from Watford. Other allegations include the manipulation of player image rights, plus a wrangle over the alleged third party ownership of young Argentine player, Bruno Zucilini, who signed for City back in 2014.

For months the club’s only reaction to the insidious drip feed from Der Speigel was, ‘We will not be providing any comment on out-of-context materials purported to have been hacked or stolen from City Football Group and Manchester City personnel and associated people. The attempt to damage the club’s reputation is organised and clear.’

Fight Till The End – CEO Ferran Soriano and Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak are ready to lead City into battle against FIFA, UEFA, the FA and the Premier League.

With operation ‘Smear City’ in full swing, an Italian journalist, whose only claim to fame was ‘breaking’  Ronaldo’s move to Juventus from Real Madrid, ‘broke’ another story just before the weekend. He claimed Pep Guardiola had a ‘verbal agreement’ to take over in Turin this summer.

Talk about manna from heaven for the anti-City media and pundits. They latched onto the story as proof that Pep was ready to quit, as City’s alleged wrong doings would soon become all too clear.

Perhaps surprisingly, but nonetheless pleasingly, Pep publicly laid that one to rest in his post match press conference after City had beaten bus parking Watford 3-1.

The Catalan genius responded, “If Manchester City wants me I will stay two more years by far, and hopefully another one. I’m not going to go to Juventus in the next two seasons.”

Poisonous Platini – the legacy of the disgraced former UEFA President, continues to haunt City.

City fans could easily be forgiven for thinking that, just because they’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean the rest of the football world isn’t out to ‘get’ their club.

It’s looking like City will need to action the club’s motto ‘Superbia In Proelia’ – ‘Pride In Battle’ – to fend off an ever lengthening line of enemies.

One gets the impression that, having been remarkably restrained in the past in not going into battle with the pernicious Michel Platini, his crooked leadership of UEFA and warped concept of Financial Fair Play, City are right up for the fight this time around.

UEFA and FIFA are known to be corrupt organisations. Gianni Infantino was UEFA’s Secretary General when Financial Fair Play was introduced and he oversaw City’s FFP punishment in 2014. He’s now the FIFA President!

Whilst not wanting to be in the crosshairs of the football authorities in the first instance, there is a growing feeling that Sheikh Mansour and Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak are prepared to go the distance to protect and, to some degree, restore, City’s reputation.

Thankfully, there’s not much wrong with City’s recent form on the pitch, following a run of nine consecutive wins and the retention of the League Cup, thrown in for good measure.

City are back on top of the Premier League and seeking to progress to the Champions League quarter finals and the FA Cup semi finals this week.

After that comes the usually odious international break – but not so this time around. The fortnight between March 16th and 30th will bring a welcome respite for some of Pep’s men.

If City can win their remaining eight Premier League matches, they will retain the Premier League title. That would mean a points haul of 98. They wouldn’t be Centurions but they would be Champions once again, and that’s what really counts.

It’ll provide much needed healing time and rest for the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Fernandinho and City’s modern day ‘Invisible Man’ Benjamin Mendy. Other key players such as Sergio Aguero and David Silva, now free from their past commitments to Argentina and Spain, will take time out.

With Pep expertly managing to juggle and rotate his squad across the three remaining competitions, it’s little wonder every bugger is out to get us.

Absolutely Brilliant with every angle covered
It’s always been like this in my sixty five years of being a City fan and even when we won the title in ‘68 the devils in red won the European Cup
Even Mourinho tried to upstage us by the winning the Europa League
So our efforts in Europe have not come close and it seems the powers that be are still out to stop us as we probably have the best chance ever of winning all before us
And how the pundits drool when those same Red Devil’s go through on a VAR decision and they are hailed as super heroes
Our beloved City get slated for a referees decision to give a goal and this is hailed as so unfair
Go for it Pep bring them all down around our ankles and no matter what we are the magnificent showmen

Great to have you back Dave. Always a quality read & spot on opinions with regard to the latest smears on City. I really believe City need to fight it tooth & nail in the courts and smash Uefa & those "clubs with history" hahah that don't like competition.

I never believe any rumours that come from Italian or Spanish sources - they're either Juve biased with an offer of taking one our stars on a free loan with an option to buy for £50 & a bag of chips or its Real Madrid biased La Marca quoting Bernardo Silva wanting to play for RM. The
internet is like a bad dose that spreads - Pep sussed it straight away.
Uefa are being egged on by the German FA (Bayern no doubt) & English clubs and once again Pep was on it - acknowledging the attempts to destabilise & diminish City's achievements.
Don't forget if City win the league (I won't say 'when' cos I'm not Alan Hansen) the media will just praise Liverpool for keeping up so long & if they win it then City'll have failed.
One more thing, Radio 5 discuss it quite a lot but they never come out & say it - Sergio PFA Player of the Year is never going to happen. Its been one of the most blatant shows of antipathy towards the City setup stretching back to Sky & the Sky Four years, along with Scudamore & Gill.

Thank you sir for a brilliantly thoughtful and superb blog highlighting the unfairness of the so called FFP initative.
I’m angry regarding why city didn’t nip this in the bud at the outset of its implementation, I can only assume city were assured that this was the end of it by uefa and that placated our desire to challenge legally the anti competitive native of FFP.
Enough is enough in my book and I hope also for city’s , owners, we should be suing uefa for untold damages based on anti competitive rules, would corporations like Unilever or ICI be told they cannot invest whatever sums of money they desire in their business?, no, of course they would not and neither should city.
Time to take on uefa and restore our reputation from smears, lies and innuendo.

If I was being cynical (As you know I am, David) I honestly think UEFA will find us guilty of something despite our innocence and ban us from the Champions League as a flexing of their muscles exercise and to send a message to other clubs to toe the party line or face the same punishment. A kind of "Look what we did to City, don't think we won't punish anyone else if you transgress". I personally couldn't give a Monkey's toss if they do ban us, we will just concentrate on the Premier League and dominate it even more, so much so that Messers Henry and Glazer might set up a petition to have us reinstated to the Champions League to give them a slight chance of getting close to a Premier League title!

Well, I'm no financial expert but I'm pretty sure HH Sheikh Mansour has more money that UEFA and will hire the World's Leading Lawyers to litigate any appeals should UEFA decide to "Punish" City. Not that they should as their corruption could be uncovered if it goes to court and I'm also pretty sure they don't want that exposed! In the words of John Steinbeck: “Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts... perhaps the fear of a loss of power.”

        • March 11, 2019  12:58 am by David Walker Reply

I could never corroborate the story, but I heard that Khaldoon is alleged to have said that he would either pay the top 30 relevant lawyers £50m, or it might have been the top 50 lawyers £30m, to effectively tie UEFA up in knots for years to come, rather than succumb to their corrupt rulings. It could be a complete fabrication by somebody - not me incidentally - but if there is even a hint of truth in that anecdote, it means City are ready to defend themselves by any, and all necessary, means.

Excellent blog - and the points you've raised are pertinent and clearly from a blue standpoint, which one would expect and I massively agree. But, even a level headed 'non-blue' the question is becomes "How the f cuk can UEFA and FIFA expect to be taken seriously ever again ?" Both are essentially the Villain and the Policeman. It smacks of desperation, and there is a feeling of 'get City at all costs' emanating from the slightest rumour or whisper. In a hypothetical accusation of some sexual impropriety, these two joke organisations could align themselves with R Kelly and Michael Jackson as part of the investigation team. If we have done anything wrong, then we should take what comes our way, but the witch-hunt from the media, the bin dippers, and the jealous factions aplenty, really is pathetic. As far as the Premier League go..... these toothless chumps are a laughing stock in my opinion, and not fit to judge anyone !!

It would also be nice to come back with some counter claims of our own (I'm sure we have enough dirt to dish back) . Nothing would make this season sweeter than to win the lot and for UEFA, FIFA, PL, FA to find no evidence whatsoeve rin these dubious claims that journos delight in writing about us, whilst hiding behind terms like 'alleged, if, maybe, possible, might have' and the rest. I hope we take them out this time by not only proving our innocence but also trashing the whole concept of FFP. It was designed to stop debt apparently, but guess what, we don’t have any! The arrogance of the traditional big clubs is astounding. Double standards and protectionism. The fact that a load of them have been busted and helped to perpetrate tax fraud of their players and managers seem to be lost on them. Let’s just enjoy our remarkable team and forget the crooked sideshow.
